Global healthcare at scale
Frontend Architect

Context
Novo Nordisk is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, operating across regulated markets with strict compliance requirements and a complex digital estate. In this area of the organisation, frontend architecture capability was missing. I was brought in specifically to provide it — introducing the structure, patterns and design-system foundations the teams needed to build on.
The Challenge
Building consistent, compliant frontend at enterprise scale requires more than good implementation. Without architectural direction — shared patterns, a design-system foundation, standards that could hold across teams — new work would keep reinventing what came before, and quality would depend on whoever happened to be writing the code that day. Compliance requirements (GDPR, WCAG, internal policy) added constraints that had to be designed in from the start, not retrofitted.
What I Did
I came in as frontend architect with a mandate to establish the capability that wasn't there. I introduced a design-system approach as the backbone — a shared vocabulary of components and patterns that teams could build against without each project starting from scratch. Around it I defined the component architecture, coding and accessibility standards, and the practices that let teams work independently while producing consistent output.
Outcome
The engagement left Novo Nordisk with frontend architecture and a design-system foundation where none had existed before — the kind of shared groundwork teams keep building on long after the person who introduced it has moved on.
